Hospital Rooms: Sandwell CAMHS

Hospital Rooms has teamed up with renowned artists such as Rana Begum, Miranda Forrester, and Christian Marclay, alongside local talents Roo Dhissou and Marley Starskey Butler, and the young people of Sandwell CAMHS, to transform the Lodge Road site. This year-long project included workshops with young people and staff, conducted in schools and local cultural organisations, to develop a shared vision for the space.

The result is 12 new site-specific artworks that reimagine how children and young people experience mental health care, continuing our mission to infuse all mental health spaces with art and creativity.

As the first Visiting Curator in the organisation’s history, I was part of the commissioning team.

You can find out more about the project by buying Sandwell: A Hospital Rooms Publication and reading an essay titled ‘Site-specific art therapy: The story of Hospital Rooms’ by Charlotte Jansen in Hauser & Wirth’s publication, Ursula.
